Jay Harrington, 35 years old, lives in Great Valley, NY and has had diabetes since he was 12. Jay's medical condition started on April 4th, when he was driven to the hospital thinking he was having complications with Diabetes and the flu.
After arriving, the local hospital wasn't sure what to think. Jay then began having seizures and was placed into a medically induced coma and transported to a hospital in Buffalo, NY, about 65 miles from his hometown. After several MRI's, CAT scans, and tests, he was diagnosed with Herpes Complex Encphlifitis Virus ( a very serious brain infection ) and with an undertermined outcome. Jay was admitted into the ICU unit, continued to be in a coma with many tubes, IV's and machines hooked up to him. The family was there daily proaying. Other medical conditions arose, such as blood clots in his lungs, both legs and a blood spot on his hi brain, along with an unexplainable fever.
With God's will and Jay's strength and determination, he was out of his coma after 53 days. Jay has now been moved to a hospital for rehabilitation and is beginning to talk to us in short words. The doctors say he will need a long term housing rehabilitation center soon for at least 9 months to a year. We are hoping that Jay will resume an independent normal life, but only fate knows that.
The benefit will be held on August 29th 2009 @ 2pm at the Great Valley Fireman's Club. We are estimating that 500 people will attend but would love for you all to prove us wrong. Any and all donations will be ackowledged to the people in attendance for advertisement.
